Data deduplication is a technique used to reduce storage capacity requirements by getting rid of duplicate data. After all, if you have multiple copies of a single file, you really only need to store one version of that file, right? Unfortunately, computers often generate redundant data without your knowledge. For example, let's say you've created a 100 megabyte PowerPoint presentation and have emailed it to ten of your colleagues.
