In recent years additional bike lanes and pedestrian plazas may have reduced car accidents at certain intersections in New York City, but according the Mayor's Management report of city measures, traffic fatalities between July 2011 and June 2012 were up by 23 percent compared to the previous year. While crash statistics fell overall, more cyclists, pedestrians, drivers and passengers are not surviving accidents.
