Raipur, capital city of Chhattisgarh, is situated on the banks of River Mahanadi. Chhattisgarh is a newly created state and Raipur became its capital in November 2000. It is also called as the 'Rice Bowl of India' as numerous varieties of rice are grown in the region. The river Mahanadi and its tributaries passes through this land make Raipur fertile.
